SBE Chapter 56 Meeting Minutes of May 28, 2019

KMYT at KTUL Tower site – Coweta, OK

Chapter Chairman Don Dobbs called the meeting to order. Meeting attendees introduced themselves.

  • Treasurer’s Report:

    There is a current balance of $3,366.55. There was a $400 deposit for sustaining membership support from Precision Communications & RF Specialties of Texas.
  • Secretary’s report

    Nothing to report. Minutes of last meeting were approved.

    Nothing to Report

  • Frequency Coordination below 1 GHz:

    Nothing to report

  • EAS Report:

    Roger Herring not present

  • Certification Report:

    David Shaffer – testing in two weeks

    Meeting was adjourned and Don Dobbs thanked Gates Air for providing lunch for the chapter.

Program:

Avery Shultz is the Regional Sales Manager for Gates Air covering New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma.

Steven Rossiter, Sr. TV Systems Application Engineer for Gates Air presented a program discussing the potential system limitations that might be encountered in the process of converting from 8-VSB to ATSC 3.0.  The program focused on various RF system limitations that might be encountered due to the higher peak to average power ratios involved and brief discussion about the capabilities of ATSC 3.0 regarding multiple programs/layers and how those can impact coverage and reception. Prior to working at Gates Air/Harris Steven was an antenna systems applications engineer for Dielectric/SPX.
